It would be nice if you could collapse a comment to hide all children, third make for easier scanning of high level comments without needing to scroll through all the replies.

That’s already implemented. Hold the parent top comment line and the whole threading is collapsing. Hold it again to extend again.
Ah, I see now, just the to line (username, score, and age) will collapse it. Thanks!
for me, it’s more useful to allow the parent comments to be visible while hiding the child replies
Any way to have it default collapsed? I only want to see the replies if the parent comment is interesting, otherwise it’s just wasting space.

I think a button would be more intuitive. Remove the word “comments” after the number of comments and icon, would free up space.
At least on the web, I see a small square next to the usernames with the -/+ signs depending on the toggle status.
