I think the point is politics in a nation can change at any time, and as such you may lose the domain/no longer feel safe supporting that nation. Just because they wouldn’t now doesn’t mean they wouldn’t in the future. (Especially with how well AfD is polling and how much CDU/CSU seem to be starting to cooperate)

No, the entire point is that you’re free to go to whatever instance you want and/or host your own with your own rules. You’re more than welcome to go to one that doesn’t defederate, just as every instance owner/admins are free to defederate. It’s not how “the fediverse is supposed to operate” because a standard for how the fediverse is supposed to operate doesn’t exist.

Counterpoint, what has Meta done to gain even the tiniest bit of the semblance of the doubt. If someone’s punched you in the face every time you’ve knocked on their door, are you really going to knock on it a 15th time? You’d be a fool to expect that time to be any different.
