To me, FireFish got replaced by IceShrimp. Good looking interface, nice features (Antenna) and regular releases.

Yes, that’s why I always link Mbin nowadays
They are working on it: https://codeberg.org/forgejo/forgejo/issues/59
You can try IceShrimp, their Antenna systems seems to be what you are looking for: https://iceshrimp.dev/iceshrimp/iceshrimp
If you look at any profile page, it’s the classic Mastodon layout: https://veganism.social/@mascottus
The probably just customized the home page
If you really want something a bit less austere than Mastodon you can have a look at https://iceshrimp.social/
What happens when someone posts to a local version of a community whose home instance no longer exists? I assume local users can see the post, but it doesn’t federate to any other instances?
Correct
Agree with your other point too
I found my latest job there. Some companies tend to mostly post in LinkedIn rather than other job boards. I guess it’s probably country dependent
Just being able to see interesting job posts in my field and area
But if you would like to contribute to Fediverse project, I would say that the current link aggregator options would have more impact:
Does anybody know how often the https://fedipact.veganism.social/?v=2 is updated? Some instances defederated a few weeks ago but still appear as federated
LinkedIn.
It’s one of the last social media I have. Benefits outweigh cons, but I still would like to get rid of it
And that’s why it is recommended to use instances where they have a Matrix or a Mastodon channel so that you can communicate outside of Lemmy
I still see some people posting to their local versions of the Lemmy.film communities
([email protected] for movie and TV shows discussions BTW)
Iceshrimp is the way
Both could work, in a different way.
Nextcloud is more like a shared agenda, where you need to explicity invite people to events.
Mobilizon is more like Facebook events, where anyone with the link can say they will attend.
You might even have both, a Nextcloud for the members of the org and a Mobilizon as the public events
https://bonfirenetworks.org/ approach is quite unique, this might be what you are looking for
IIRC, Catodon development is currently halted (https://catodon.social/notes/9rl77swzw25jjq7x).
Sharkey I don’t know
There really is a whole *keys forks lore ha ha
