Sometimes, I think that peertube would work better as simply being a different section of a personal/private website. You know how some sites hosted their own videos back before youtube became “the only place to post videos”? Gametrailers, Machinima, ThatGuyWithTheGlasses, etc.
Federation helps with discovery, but not much beyond that, I think.

Lack of interest from their part. Right now, they have nothing to gain, fediverse is “small fry”, and if the attacks could be traced back to them, they’d have to deal with the PR shitstorm

Just a reminder: if the intent is to get people off bluesky, xitter or threads, the masses won’t care about servers, they’ll only care about whether “people are there”.
Maybe I’m delusional and severely underestimating how doable this is, but I really believe Mastodon needs to change the way it deals with new users if we want it to actually grow into a strong social media, keyword social (it needs people).
The irony is that each server, as they’re running their own version of mastodon (or similar federated program), could edit their code to make the change so that the first page a new user sees is the local or global posts coming in. I don’t know how many bother to add any bit of code that differs from the main source, but I suspect it’s a very small fraction, which means the real decision falls on the main mastodon maintainers who, if comments on previous mastodon focused posts are anything to go by, very rarely accept changes to UI/UX
Copying some stuff from their wordpress site:
A fungus web-service …
- answers user requests and knowledge inserts over the social web
- writes and reads data from the semantic web to collaborate with other fungi agents (this would ideally done with decentralized technology like solid pods, or other knowledge graphs, e.g. like wikidata.org or an own Jena Fuseki server)
- develops a shared AI model (which is also written to the semantic web) based on decentralized federated learning (which would ideally be based on something like FlowerAi, but isn’t at the moment)
- Can be accessed via the browser to answer requests and link to the other fungi it is connected to (which can be browsed through this)
- implements a user-fungus symbioses-policy, which ensures the overall health of the web and humanity
I’ll be honest, I personally see zero value in having an AI bot running here. I’d also poison rather than help AIs as much as I can.
One can imagine this project as a decentralized huggingface, which (spoiler alert), could also enshittify.

Can it cross federate? Or at least within pixel fed, how easy is it for instances to federate? I’ve found that mastodon requires at least one person from a different instance following you before your stuff federates there

To be fair to the fucking muskrat, he paid 44 billion dollars to have the loudest voice in the world. By chance, he also got a lot of power in US politics. Sure, he’s killing twitter in the process, but he can probably recoup the money through other means.

The migration that happened from xitter being blocked in Brazil is a good example of a bandwagon effect, or “people go where people are”. If xitter wasn’t taken down, neither bluesky nor threads would’ve received such a big and immediate influx.
Also worth noting is that the vast majority went for those 2, bluesky more so than threads, instead of any mastodon instance because those 2 are the mainstream alternatives
So do I2P, HyphaNet (formerly FreeNet) and ZeroNet. They’re all P2P networks and can run on old hardware, with the drawback being that you can’t access normal internet sites while connected to them
