There is no app for Kbin yet.
Spanish guy, who likes open source software and has just discovered the fediverse (as of 28th of April, 2022). I like video games, and indie and retro music. I’m a student. I’m officially diagnosed with ADHD and ASD since January, 2023.
America is a continent and Americans are people from that continent (Canadians, Usonians, Mexicans, Cubans, Argentinians, Brazilians…)
Mastodon user: https://mstdn.social/@icg937

I had to leave a Mastodon instance because it was about activism, gaza and politics the whole fucking day. So I perfectly understand what you feel. But I think there are ways and/or servers where everybody can feel comfortable. The mastodon server where I’m on right now, people talks about US stuff the whole day, and I’m very annoyed because of that because I don’t give a damn shit about US. But the admin is cool, people support Ukraine, and I follow funny stuff too.
Block communities spamming gaza / war / techbro
I would agree with you if those communities were/are created to post content about gaza / war / techbro. But in most cases, those communities are generic, about news and technology, so when you block them, you also block other content that is not about gaza / war / techbro.
Fourth panel, meaning Corporate & Tankie Fediverse vs Free Fediverse.
Does it shadowban mentions of Kbin/Mbin or Piefed too?
I was about to left Lemmy/Kbin for good when some stupid fascists from Lemmy(grad).ml called me names and harassed me, despite the fact that I’m neurodivergent (like that would stop them from doing such actions, but anyway). And then I started blocking every community and user from those places, as well as any community/magazine about US politics or about any US topic because I don’t give a damn heck about that place. And my experience improved really well.
They have had more people sign up then all of Mastadon in one day.
Same as other big social media in the past (Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Instagram…), and yet the fediverse is still here.
I was thinking. People like to point out EEE (embrace, extend, extinguish). But from my point of view, I only see EE (embrace, extend). Why do I leave behind the third E, the extinguish one?
Because to extinguish the fediverse, Threads must become a microblogging link aggregator video photo blogging music app. Right now it’s only a microblogging app. Besides, it has to destroy every instance of every service in the fediverse, and, you know, according to this place, there are 12.340 instances, only counting those of Mastodon. Can Threads destroy all those 12.340 Mastodon instances, plus all the Lemmy instances, plus all the PeerTube instances, and so on?
Sorry to be controversial, but I have to say it. Those US turds think that US is the only country in the world and everything spins around them.
I’m not sure, but the 3rd was a normal day on Kbin, I went to bed, next morning I woke up, took breakfast, brushed my teeth, connected to Kbin… and beans, beans everywhere.
TILvids seems to have lots of content.
I didn’t ask for evidences that Meta did something. I asked for evidences that Meta will do something.
I think there is no evidence that corporations are going to do what you all say they’re going to do. Critical thinking is a thing, and judging without evidence is not a very good action. I mean, is there a tangible evidence that Meta is going to destroy the fediverse?
I don’t like Meta, I don’t like Facebook and I don’t like anything Zuckerberg does, including him. But I think that we’re overreacting and creating assumptions that perhaps won’t be true.
Everyone is free to de-federate or not to de-federate from that project. But let’s think for a minute. ActivityPub projects are open source, that means that everyone can read the code of a specific project, being Mastodon or Lemmy. That won’t change, it’s not so easy, luckily for us.
Can they add on features that aren’t part of the spec? Sure, they can, but everyone is free to add those features to their projects, it’s not mandatory. Their project won’t be another Mastodon instance, or another Misskey instance, but an independent project inside ActivityPub. It’s like saying that Pleroma is Mastodon, that’s not true.
Can they cut ActivityPub support? Well, it’s their problem, ActivityPub is alive right now without their support, and we’re doing pretty well.
Will they mine everyone’s data along the way? That’s the most serious concern for me too. But unless we look at their code, we don’t know yet.
Because their favourite politician is there, because their favourite singer is there, because their favourite football player is there…
When I joined Lemmy a year ago (with another user), Lemmygrad was not my piece of cake, Lemmy.ml was too big (similar to mastodon.social), Lemmy.ca was not in my continent, and I didn’t notice about beehaw. So, sopuli was the only one standing: small, from Finland and not tankie.
Creating a instance can be difficult, but it’s a good way when you don’t like what you’re offered, and it can help other people to find their home.
There’s obviously a strong leftist culture here
That depends on what instance you create an user on. For example, Lemmygrad.ml and Lemmy.ml are not the same thing, despite both belonging to Lemmy. The issues I see are having a tankie culture, and not having more points of view.
There are less users so less content
That’s something we can help with, although it’s not so easy. I mean, the users that are already here, we can create more content and interact more with each other, so eventually more users will come. It can be boring and tiring, but it’s not impossible.
Federation is a stumbling block for many people
That’s something absolutely new for the vast majority of people. I felt myself confused the first time I joined the fediverse too. But after some time, I felt myself less confused. Some clarifications, tutorials and support can do the real trick.
