The article mentions anything that requires an email to sign up. My guess is that social media sites will allow “guest” accounts or something with no email that section you off into a kids version of the site while everyone else is expected to provide verification.
There are 2 car-enthusiast subreddits. /r/autos and /r/cars. Years ago they were planning to merge because they were so similar. Some disagreement between the direction caused them to not merge and actually differentiate. Now /r/cars doesn’t allow image posts to foster more discussion while /autos can be more about looking at cool cars. I think similar things will happen to Lemmy

Yep. I’ve had Google play music since it came out so I’ve never seen YouTube ads except when at a friend’s house. Each time I do, I’m reminded how worth it YT premium/YT music is. I wish more platforms would allow me to simply pay a small fee to enjoy an ad-free experience.
Personally, I think YouTube will be the hardest thing to replicate in a federated way.
I disagree. Gaming consoles typically have qwerty layout for on-screen typing with a D-pad. I still think it’s faster to input when I know where the letters are. With different services adopting different alphabetical layouts, I don’t quickly know where the letters are. Really, the best solution would be to make it an option. I always end up casting from my phone which allows me to use my phone’s keyboard.

I don’t think this is a practical take. If I’m driving a car, I’m in control and know my intentions. If I’m responsible for an accident, it’s because I wasn’t fully alert or did something stupid.
If autopilot is driving the car, I don’t know the car’s intentions. It might cause a dangerous situation before my brain can process that it has bad intentions and take over. If it sees something in the road that isn’t there, it might swerve or brake and I won’t recognize until it already happened. That’s considering an alert driver with full concentration behind the wheel. The whole point of autopilot is to reduce the driver’s workload. It does that by requiring less concentration. I think it’s inherently dangerous to require human intervention in autopilot systems.
