I think in one sense it can be good. Sometimes it is counterproductive to downvote someone from 1 to 0. I think this would prevent that, as the first downvote is probably the most important one.

But I agree that making any data public will allow everyone to be categorized easily. “This person dislikes this content and likes other content.”

Remember, you are giving this info to everyone. Mark Zuckerberg will be able to see what you like and dislike in all public votes.

Where will those users come from? Not from the Fediverse. There aren’t enough Fediverse users to sustain even one month of Threads growth. They do not care about the Fediverse at all.

Threads has lots of users because they just signed everyone up who has an Instagram account. They aren’t trying to steal Fediverse users or “extinguish” the technology, they’re trying to be a Twitter alternative.

Also, people here don’t need extra content from Threads. We already have content. You can just personally block Threads if you don’t like it. It’s your choice.

But that’s good. Meta doesn’t care about Lemmy or Mastodon because they’re tiny. Threads is a threat to Twitter. They want to integrate with Mastodon just because Twitter doesn’t. That’s it.
