One of the biggest things I like about Lemmy is the lack of any business. The whole point is you can run your own instance. Social media shouldn’t be a commodity in the first place, as we can see from the death rattles of web 2 social media giants they really aren’t that profitable anymore. And most nations have a lot of laws they have to adhere to, and public opinion is turning against data farming which is one of their primary sources of revenue.
Personally I’d much prefer Lemmy continue its grass roots and democratized growth. But I cant stop you or anyone else from trying, I will just avoid supporting any attempts to create a business out of the fediverse. The last thing we need here is more capitalists lol
So, you’re going off for no reason about nothing, the commenter i was responding to was responding to a comment about meta’s new app and all the information it outright tells you it is harvesting and selling from you.
Thats what the person you were responding to was talking about yes.
Yeah, and I suppose how long you read a post is public too? I mean, meta can see that information, and you’re not hiding it offline or anything, so they should just be able to sell it too why not. And your search history. That’s… public too. Your personal contacts for your friends and family on your phone, thats wide open public information right. Also any health information you log in your phone. Public info.
Is everything human beings do public info? Should we make our houses out of glass while we’re at it, and record every human beings entire life on audio and video so that mega corporations can sell any information gathered?
Having a directional antenna is great. If you check the logs on your modem you should be able to see the identifier for the tower you’re connecting to. Using that you can pinpoint it’s location. If you’re really dedicated you can build a tower outside to put a directional antenna above the tree line.
Or at least, that’s what we would have technicians do for customers in rural areas.
It’s gotten so much more vibrant and colorful over the years. I kinda miss the clunky grey on grey era
I still go through phases of playing pvp. One of my favorite shooters of all time.
I speedrun games as a hobby :P we exploit a lot of bugs developers are unaware of lol. A lot of speed games are older though, so we’ve also had a long time to find some of the more obscure ones. Bug fixing is an ongoing process in modern games. I dont think it’s possible to have considered every single possible situation in a game engine, at least not for an average developer. But you sound more in the now about their internal processes, so you’re probably right and I misinterpreted what they meant by that quote.
But it hasn’t been shipped yet? Plenty of developers have shipped out a game they believed to be bug free only for the players to discover hundreds of missed bugs on launch day.
Yeah how can they say it has the fewest bugs of any Bethesda game has shipped with when the game hasn’t shipped yet??
I still don’t understand why the community has been so tolerant of blizz forcing a sequel so they can directly charge money for skins.
Ive thus far really enjoyed Lemmy. I don’t anticipate struggling with dropping reddit entirely as of tomorrow.
Muting means other people can still comment on your stuff, and everyone else but you can see it.
Its so transphobes and homophobes can continue commenting on LGBT people’s content.
I really hope that skywind makes good progress soon. I have been anticipating that mod since 2014.
No of course, I myself found that toast notification annoying and unhelpful. It should prompt you to login.
I can definitely see how it’s quite confusing honestly lol. A login prompt on first launch and a login button in the sidebar would definitely help the user friendliness. Be good if there was a “How do I create an account” link giving that a rundown too.
It seems modeled after boost for reddit, which has a very similar multiple accounts system. Having the drop down to conveniently switch accounts is nice.
I don’t think its nearly that bad. It takes time to get setup the way you like it, but so does reddit. So does other social media platforms.
Having an easier search and community index system would be great though. I feel like that’s one of the biggest barriers to entry currently.
