  • Yes! I remember the first one because I got super interested in translating that cool napkin from that Finland place you had in the photo. Glad to see you went for it with the homemade ketchup and brioche bun!

Also good to see you kept the kitchen demon with the red eyes (above the top right of the burger) from last time, I feel like it’s part of your signature now.

Omg thank you, anytime I see covered up text it’s like something goes off in my brain where I really want to be able to read the rest, this is extremely satisfying! You have my respect for keeping spare napkins to use later, which I try to do as well, but also for using them appropriately for your own burgers, which is oddly satisfying.

As far as recreating your favorite discontinued burger and modifying it with bacon, it looks like you’ve done an incredible job! At this point I’d say it looks like you’ve got the skills and the drive to take a shot at recreating their ketchup – make sure to post back in this community if you do!

And of course for anyone curious, their napkin goes over the ethos, in part roughly translating to: “It has always been clear that burgers mean more to us than just chow. Everything we’ve learned from burgers, and what we’re still learning, we’ll share with you. So that you can experience the same passion and joy of realization as we do.” It’s signed by “The Burgermeister” which is not only the Burger Master but I think possibly a clever play on words, since “bürgemeister” refers to a mayor/chief/etc. as I understand it!

    Edit: Grammar and Spelling correction

  • Crosscode is my favorite game of all time. It takes the best elements of retro games and creates an incredible experience from a beautiful combination. I said “eh, why not?” and got it on sale after seeing so many positive reviews and convincing recommendation videos and absolutely lived in it from beginning to end.

Gameplay: The gameplay is clean, the combat is fast and intuitive using both melee and ranged attacks that are extremely responsive, the special moves are insanely cool and I love figuring out the best ones to strengthen and set, I love switching elements on the fly with the push of a button to add things like fire and ice damage and how it all feels like second nature on a controller.

The puzzles get really clever and I was a big fan, mostly because figuring out the puzzles in the dungeons is simultaneously showing you ways to use new powers to manipulate your environment or attack your foes. Incredibly smart way to teach you the versatility of your powers by solving a dungeon puzzle instead of a boring tutorial. I will say that the first dungeon can start to drag, and the later dungeons can get really challenging, but that anytime I felt like I was spending too much time on something I’d just look up the Wyvern (he was one of the backers for the game and has been playing it since early versions) videos on Youtube to see how to solve what I couldn’t. No shame in asking for help, keep things fun before they just get frustrating if you’re like me, plus I needed to not waste too much time stuck on something because I was addicted to the story and needed to see what happened next! Which brings me to…

Story: The story pulled me in and just floored me. There were points where I had to pause just sobbing in tears, other times I had to pause to run around the room with joy. Go into it blind, it will pull you in!

A Unique Strength: It’s crazy how real your companions feel, completely sells the feeling and idea of being in an MMORPG. Part of this is because of how effectively written your friends are, and part of it is the fact that they are capable of acting on their own and in no way require you to control or protect them. In that way it reminded me a lot of Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite where you have a companion that, not only takes care of herself, but actually helps you and improves the gameplay in a way that it feels real lonely when they’re not around. I was emotionally invested in these people for sure.

I also like that it’s one of the few games these days to have a free playable demo. The demo is the short prologue at the beginning of the game. It’s fun but it greatly undersells things as it shows you some of the bare basics of melee combat. Learning the ranged attack system right after the prologue and then progressing into the range of the elemental abilities is where the combat shines. And finding out how big this world actually is adds more to it then a demo has a chance at conveying.

TL;DR 10/10 for Crosscode from me!

  • You might want to look into Disco Elysium. It’s not exactly scifi or post apocalyptic in a traditional sense but is certainly adjacent to it if not in a subset of it. It plays similarly but is more akin to the gameplay of Planescape: Torment.

It’s at least worth checking out some reviews, descriptions, screenshots, trailers, etc. It might not be your thing but as a Fallout 1 and 2 fan it was right up my alley and is easily one of my favorite games of all time!

  • Normally, yes! You’d be able to see threads across the Fediverse no matter where you signed up.

If you think of the Fediverse like a shopping mall, think of kbin and lemmy as two different bus companies that go to that same mall. It doesn’t matter what bus you take, both take you to the same place where you can browse the same stores. Maybe you like the seats in the lemmy bus better than the kbin bus so you prefer to use that one. That’s like if someone prefers the interface of lemmy more than kbin. While both go to the same places and see the same things, you might prefer the look and layout of one over the other so you use your favorite primarily.

However, keep in mind that kbin.social has had a massive amount of people sign up in the past few days, and as such it could not handle the large amount of new activity. They are working on a fix for this, but for now kbin.social has been cutoff from the Fediverse while it updates to handle the new load. Think of it like the kbin.social bus is not currently going to the mall – you can get on, see and talk to the people on that bus, but until maintenance is done it won’t actually go to the shopping mall where you can interact with everything across the Fediverse.

There is more to it but that’s a simplified gist of it!
