That’s not how it’s supposed to work. The theoretical concept (and a selling point, really) is that you can move your entire account elsewhere. In practice, it’s not implemented yet for Lemmy, afaik.

1·1 year agoSometimes it’s not a question of “willing” but “able”. I’m just mildly neurodivergent but I still had to put an amount of cognitive energy into understanding the fediverse that I just wouldn’t have had available if I wasn’t on disability and not working.
Yeah, I was endlessly confused that I couldn’t use my social.technics.de account to login anywhere but Mastodon, as I’m pretty sure I had been promised. I suppose I eventually just accepted that I’d misunderstood some aspect of the concept but it did slow down my switch to the Fediverse considerably.
Confusingly, “German cakes” have nothing to do with Germany, it’s the name of the original creator.
