I’ve used Android since the early days (I think as early as KitKat?) and I’ve been thinking about switching to Apple in recent years. I’m just tired of privacy being a line that’s crossed over all the time. So if they want to retain more customers they need to start treating our data with respect
That’s definitely what they’re after, if you ask me. But if you ask them, they’d claim your privacy is protected…
One thing I don’t understand about this situation is that they took what was almost certainly a profitable service and abandoned it. Meanwhile, they have services like Gmail and Maps which can’t be profitable, in my opinion, and just shove resources at them. They’re way too set on user data and advertising. It’s a shame
In my mind, it’s because the game developers are catering to the “short attention span” gamers, which I think is a pretty large chunk. They want to get to “playing” fast and want that instant gratification.
In Apex Legends, there are hotspots where half the lobby drops, and you either are the one team out of four or five that comes out alive, or you die pretty immediately and have to queue up for the next game. It’s just a different style of playing, which I don’t fully understand.
But then again, I also don’t want to drop in the middle of nowhere and loot for 20 minutes. I want moderate-paced action; an initial fight with one or two teams, then slowly rotate around the map picking intelligent fights where we can.
having to wait to join a match in order to play
It’s funny that you mention that, because I wish that were longer sometimes. I feel as though matchmaking prioritizes fast match times rather than accurate matches. So I often am up against incredibly good opponents and the game was lost from the start
Reddit (and Boost, the app I used before) offered several different layout styles that you could pick from (e.g. cards, list). Are those the types of layouts you’re referring to? Those could be added, I expect, and the more the merrier
Or do you mean more specific layout details like where the voting buttons are?
Jeroba is great and open source (and free)! Rather than “better Lemmy apps” why not just improve the one that already exists?
Did the same this morning but with Boost. End of an era, really
Glad to see someone representing Ecosia in the thread! I was kind of hoping it’d be more popular
I also use “Tab for a Cause” as well and love both. It’s nice to feel even just a tiny bit better about my searches
Really interesting, it’s an application I didn’t see coming. Definitely will be looking into this, and hopefully it spurs GitHub to do the same as well
