Mastodon overwhelmed me. I hopped on the website and had no idea what I was looking at. I didn’t understand federation. I basically had the option of what niche hobby to join on Mastadon and no indication that I would he able to access a broader forum, so I said “Well, this fucking sucks.” and left.

Threads and BlueSky are likely as accessible as making an account and you’re done.

Was Morrowind for me. Climbing out of that prison galley to find myself in that foggy alien swamp with the rumbling groans and sorrowful cries of the nearby silt strider. Realizing shortly after that if I could see it lying around, it had value, and I could pick it up and keep it or even sell it if I wanted to. The world felt so mysterious and hostile. I had no idea what strange sights lurked out in the mist. That brown, dusty, ancient world always felt like I was cracking open a tome rich with lost customs and mystery.

I have several, but the one that was probably most impactful was Bassin’s Back Bass with Hank Parker for SNES. My brother and I, as well as a few uncles, aunts and adult cousins within the area, would regularly rent it from our local corner store. We would all compete for various records within the game, and it was neat because you could visit the records page every week and view them by category and type of fish. Each included a photograph of said fish, along with info on the fish’s weight, where they caught it, the bait they used, etc.

It was neat as hell and I’ve never experienced anything like it. Still the best fishing game I’ve ever played to date.

I’ve switched to DuckDuckGo as my primary search engine. The results are akin to what Google once produced.

If Sync Pro ever works with Lemmy I’ll be soooooooo happy. Everyone is mourning Apollo and I’m over here feeling like I’m attending Sync’s funeral alone.
