Yeah the moderation on .ml is insane, users are better off letting them fester in their toxic little bubble.

They’re falling behind in MAUs, slowly but surely. It’ll work itself out.

If some random instance with one user makes like 100s of communities, will it count in the graph?

Yeah it will, that’s the problem with using community count as a measure for the activity of a given instance.

Hexbear is interesting because like you said, they’re very self contained.

If you read the rest of that sentence, you’ll (maybe) figure out that there isn’t any comparative statements there- just pointing out that hexbear mostly originated from users banned from Reddit, for being toxic and disruptive.

We’re currently the 2nd most active instance measured by MAU, only lead by Lemmy.world

Because they - specifically Chapo trap house-got all of their communities banned from Reddit years before.

Yeah I was surprised too, but if you go by MAU hexbear and Lemmy.Ml combined are just under 3k last I checked.

Lemm.ee alone has about that many, and Lemmy.world has many times that

Nah I’d say this is right on par with the philosophy of the instance. Lemm.ee is moreso infrastructure for interacting with the fediverse than a specific community

It isn’t big though. They just get kicked out of everywhere else they go for being disruptive assholes, so for every community there’s a hexbear duplicate

They have less than 500 MAU. It’s just a bunch of losers yelling at each other.

Correction, updated data is actually closer to 2k MAU. They are the 4th most active instance, topped by lemm.ee, sh.itjust.works, and Lemmy.world.

Lemmy.world is absolutely wild. I had a comment deleted that was a response saying we shouldn’t nuke innocent people, I had a comment removed saying confederates are bad. I don’t know what the fuck their mods are smoking.

Fuck are you talking about? You’re on Lemmy.world, crying about Lemmy.world instance mods.

You can hop to another instance whenever you want. Lemm.ee has a very neutral defederation policy, if that’s you’re concern move there. If you want total control over federation, spin up your own instance

Enjoying it so far but there’s a lot of posts about reddit and not much else for the time being.
