Just delete your account, that way everything they send you is known garbage.

This guy is such a dweeb.
I have been running moonmoon for a while but its EXTREMELY minimalist and I think abandoned at this point. FreshRSS seems like a promising replacement tho. Since I already have the VPS, I may just throw that on there instead. Thanks for the recommendation!
Hell yeah, time for the Xbox Two announcement.
I’m still too broken up about Google Readers untimely death.
But really, I have been using more RSS feeds lately too. The only issue I have been having recently is that a lot of the websites that offer RSS don’t push the whole article to my feed and I still have to go to their website so they can serve me their ads.
I think the ad driven revenue streams are what is gonna keep us from seeing a major RSS resurgence.
I’ve done the same thing to all my landlords.
I’m not sure tbh, I won’t click them because I don’t want to give Reddit the traffic and clicks.
Hell yeah! I feel the same way! We have to be the change we want to see in the world, even when it comes to something as seemingly trivial as social media.
Hoping your business can recover that through other means, but it says a lot about your convictions to be ready and able to take that hit.
It kinda stinks that within the same post we see a call to leave Reddit but also a list of Reddit links…
Says a lot about the hold Reddit knows they have on a large portion of the internet’s information.
I really want us to be able to move on from Reddit, but it’s gonna be very difficult and uncomfortable to make that adjustment.
Someone on my mastodon instance sent this in regards to federated alternatives.
I was in a one of the shrine (can’t remember which) where you are stripped of all gear and items. There was parts to make a vehicle, so I made one and used it to mow down every construct in the place. It took way longer than necessary, and I had some really close calls when I got hung up on a corner, but it worked. It was the cheesiest thing I’ve done so far and it was pretty fun.
I don’t think it will replace it, but I do think that it will create a place for a niche group of conscious folks to build a community without the capitalistic aspects of life that have ruined a vast portion of the internet.
We just need to be sure to keep perspective and be ready to support and our server admins/developers. The lack of big tech funding is what could potentially hurt us here in the fediverse. Nothing is free and it’s on us to pay our own way before advertising starts to creep in.
I think the main thing stopping that is that that’s not what many people want. I know personally I wasn’t looking to recreate Reddit, as much I am just looking for a new link aggregator and to build a new community around it.
I actually never did that, I just used one of those plugins to purge my content. I probably should have, but also every time I have done that for other social media, I never went back to look at it anyway.
