I used Reddit Sync for about a decade before switching to Infinity for Reddit, tried giving Sync another go after the Lemmy version released and it just felt wrong whereas the Lemmy fork of Infinity is a joy to use (and is FOSS)!

On Jerboa - probably the most developed/supported Android Lemmy app - text input is so buggy that it’s practically unusable for me. Trying to edit the end of a comment will sometimes remove chunks from the middle, backspacing a few characters from the end of a word deletes the space in front of it etc.
If you’ve got the Google play services installed and the official YouTube app they pull some shit to force YouTube links to use the official player - or at least that has been my experience in recent versions of “official” versions of Android!
Most far-right fascists also make up excuses for the genocides they support - the Nazis said that Jewish people were responsible for the collapse of the Weimar economy (and a lot of other bullshit) for example.
Oof yeah even that awkward period where online maps were a thing but mobile internet wasn’t quite there yet (at least here in NZ) sucked, got a lot of “fond” memories of printing out gmaps screenshots in order to give my parents directions! Wasn’t quite as bad as traditional fold-out paper maps but still nowhere near as easy and convenient as it is nowadays.
Man I agree with wanting less constant connectivity but I think a lot of people have a rather rose-tinted view of that time period. In most of the world it wasn’t exactly the best of times for people who fell outside of certain societal norms - trans folk were mostly thought of as punchlines to jokes, being gay was a common insult, beating up people for being their genuine selves was still pretty common, and so on.
I’m not a lemmy dev but my understanding is that doing it that way would end up exponentially increasing latency once you start getting nested links to communities - accessing a post on lemmy.world that was linked to lemmy.nz and then finally read through a beehaw account, for example, might have to jump through at three servers on opposite sides of the world before getting to me rather than just being served directly across the pacific from beehaw’s server to me!
The Admins here have been pretty open about the fact that they’re keen on re-federating with large instances once better moderation tools are available!
Because entire instances have already devolved to that and thus been blocked by the wider fediverse.
The visual novels sub was actually why I signed up to Reddit back in 2013! Been a long time since I’ve actually read one though, they’re not really my thing nowadays.
Sure thing, here ya go!
Adding on to your comment, I read a really interesting study recently that suggests that interacting with AI engages the social parts of our brains but does not provide the same stimuli/feedback as interacting with a real person leading to increased loneliness and thus increased alcohol abuse and insomnia.
That’s actually not true if the instances are federated with each other. I post/subscribe to a few lemmy.nz communities despite having a beehaw account!
The subreddits won’t be unmoderated, they’ll just have pro-reddit mods installed by the admins.
Honestly I haven’t found any that have as many features while also respecting me as a user so I’ve ended up sacrificing a little bit of customisation in exchange for security and privacy. I’m currently using NeoLauncher and it’s pretty decent!
Yeah remember the time that Sony (a large and well-respected company) intentionally included a rootkit on some 22 million audio CDs?
Additionally, the Beehaw admins have said they’re open to refederating with lemmy.world et al if/when Lemmy gets better moderation tools.
LineageOS MicroG works pretty great on my Poco X3 NFC, so they’re definitely not the only brands with good custom ROM support!
I personally wouldn’t recommend a closed-source Launcher owned by a marketing/analytics company, especially if you’re the kind of person to use F-Droid!
Is the whole Amazon obsession just a North American thing? I’ve bought like 4 things from them in my life and nothing since about 2016 and I haven’t felt at all inconvenienced. From my perspective it’s not too hard to either buy from local companies, directly from foreign manufacturers, or from aliexpress if all else fails; that may just be because I’m not American though!
