is there a way to work smoothly between a userstyles hosting site and a github repo? or do you have to copy and paste back and forth all the time?

I have had hardly any time at the desktop this week! I tried your code and I like it because it generally looks good. I like mine because it uses the full use of space and has strong delineations. I’d like to combine them when I can. Dial down the hideous by about 50%.

I hope I am not disparaging you by giving you credit. I can remove it if you want. I do not feel this deserves to be in a repo at the moment. It is hideous at the front and the back.

The Stylus extension exported it with this @-moz-document and tbh I do not exactly know what that is; it isn’t how it shows up when I edit it. I didnt look into it.

Also I apologize for my various bad css habits such as preceding lines with x or other letters to comment them out instead of using comments. And I use border, outlines, backgrounds to help me locate things. Forgive me I learned CSS before web developer tools, before firebug, and only had intermittent practice since that time. I always fallback to my old ways. Only roughly grok CSS3. Usually I hide these but sometimes i miss. If I would properly share, I’d run a script to remove all the junk.

But if it works easily in your userstyle extension you should try it out. It might hurt your eyes. I make effort to describe what I am doing in comments, because otherwise I get even more lost, but the way it exported isn’t great.

Oh also it hides some stuff I am not interested in. So, uh, careful.

I do some self hosting for my own projects… if you want to and have the time an resources it is fun in a way. It is trivial to start with 1 thing so try it out. Probably your OS already has servers installed.

However it is my opinion that it is better, for the most part, for most people to use tools hosted externally. There are economies of scale. It would really be truely stupid for masses of people to all have their own little homelabs. And being an admin is a serious trade with a lot of skills and it is a time sink. And it is risky. If we are doing stuff online that we want to last, that is important, there are reasons to leave it to smarty pants nerds. Just like home maintenece or health care or hair cuts… there is a role for hobby DIY and a role for getting a pro.

If you cant parse the documentation to figure out how to set it up, you are not competant to do it. The software is not ready to be run by a person of your skill level. And im not saying that to be shitty to you; i looked at the requirements and i think it would be more than i have the time/knowledge to do. I have tried and failed for this reason at lots of things.

I thought that was quite an escalation also. But maybe their health & safety committee reccomended it. Probably just trying to make the workers feel embattled and unsafe so they would avoid engaging with the issues and stay to reddits side. Its a PUA kind of doublespeak; spez is the one actually making the threat. But in a way it seems to come from us.

Agree wrt stock market etc. I mean the whole thing is based around the workers at the companies being fucked and you are just trying to get in and exploit them a bit extra. That is your best case scenario as an “investor”. I was kind of filling in an implied worker coop thing I guess. Anyway this kind of intervention has been attempted in various venues for decades and never works as far as I know. Sometimes worker take over and worker buy outs do work and I guess that is more what I am really thinking of. I am thinking of the 3rd party devs, mods and users as workers. But you are right they never succceeed to take over via sneaky means; only directly.

so, sounds like #3 could be good if there is anyone decent with enough money to spend on it. which I can’t imagine who that would be.

A lawsuit would take ages, even if it was simple, which I doubt would be the case, and I doubt a judge is going to make specific rulings about API fees or whatever.

Wild fantasy: form a collective (some sort of formal co op structure) of users/mods/devs and buy out some investor(s), OR wait til the IPO and buy lots of shares to have a formal voting bloc. What do you think? I am thinking of some sort of semi democratic/representative structure. Better or worse? It burns to the ground in chaotic drama, or it manages to be barely coherent enough to function with all internally competing interests?

I actually used your code as base to start to fix some things that bug me the most… all spacing/positioning the colors are a total mess. So i am interested to see what yours is like. I can tell from looking that yours is more efficient because i do not know what im doing so it is trial and error.

Do you think there is a better place than wherever we are to post? A repo or other code sharing? I think the stylus extension connects to some sort of website but i never investigated it.

Dont ceos serve the board? I am only vaguely framiliar with this kind of business but i donnot think he “owns” it? But i may be confusing that with a post IPO structure.

If i may dream, the actual solution to this issue would be a mod/user takeover along the lines of a factory occupation, or a more peaceful worker buyout. (Sometimes the former leads to the latter.)

thank you I like it! I hate when websites force me to have so much blank space. Like I remember what an improvement it was in 2002 when everyone got into sans serif fonts and padding to their table based layouts and using % widths, but the craft has moved on from those days… For this kind of website I am thinking more of a newspaper and less of a coffee table book.

looks like Amino is only available for chrome and edge. For other ff users I will say I use an addon called Stylus but it might not be the best one; kind of resource hungry on big pages.

Also I will add that the posts which do not directly related to the blackout are all 6-12 hours old.

Is there a way to see what subs re dark out of the actual total? This looks like it is what % are dark compared to what % are restricted?

Ppl left myspace because fb ran aggresssive marketing campaigns that allowed the messaging platforms to interoporate. You could join fb without totally loosing touch with myspace. See cory doctorow.

Also, fb was launched intensively and exclusively in a group of iirc 8 universities to establish a user base. They got a foothold in an elite and influential group and spread slowly.

This is the part that no floss seems to plan for. Make something for a specific non nerd group. Myspace was for music. Need to establish a base.

Discord HATER here. Im happy for gamers to have their stuff; makes sense in that context i guess. As im not a gamer it is not an appropriate tool for anything i want to do.

I have been on/off gitlab for a few years but they do sometimes weird things that drive me nuts. For example last time i check you cant search a repo issues without logging in.

One of main things i use repo sites for is to troubleshoot and searching issues is a great way. Why put a barrier to that? I cant imagine it is a big server load. Just dickish.
