It’s not just for mastodon users, that’s selling it short

Do you always make up bullshit without confirming if you’re right or wrong?
It’s multiple factors but boils down to them being easier for non-techie people to access. It’s also a culture issue. Bluesky culture is more like Mastodon than not but it is more diverse and shifts younger. Lots of gatekeepers and harassers ruined it for would be mastodon users particularly Black and Brown folk that were harassed out of the space. One of the biggest minority ran instances was shut down due to overwhelming harassment. People also don’t want to be preached to nor want to be told how to use their own damn social account and be told they’re using it wrong. Most people legit just wanted Twitter without Musk.
This is weird on multiple levels, Bluesky code is Open Source, it’s federated and no one gives a damn about it being a PBC. It’s mostly about culture why people have gone to Bluesky and Threads
On Bluesky most of the algorithms are made by users, that’s another plus
So weird that no one mentioned https://micro.blog/ Which only after Mastodon was the second platform to adopt ActivityPub.
This makes me think of Fediverse client SoraSns. It used on-device ML and has algorithmic choice. It’s awesome that everything is done on-device
Not as censorship resistant as Nostr
Several of you seem to be misunderstanding. When he says “like Twitter” it’s not in the negative ways you are thinking. It’s in the negative ways he’s thinking. Meaning censorship and being able to ban accounts. He doesn’t want that. Mastodon would have the same criticisms if he commented on it.
Why would that matter?
Not at all.
Seems like it would be good to request Discourse and NodeBB to offer similar features
Did you do it yet ?
I’d be very interested in this
They are federating since February
Not really. You can utilise a Mastodon client that allows you to subscribe to remote instances. Another option is to utilise a relay and subscribe to an instance
I don’t understand. What data do you mean for an instance?
Interesting to see your comment about Mastodon EEE ActivityPub. I would love to know more about your thoughts. It’s funny to see people worried about Threads making breaking changes yet Mastodon has done it from the beginning. Look at recently with the quote post situation, Misskey has had them forever, Threads used Misskey implementation and an FEP, Mastodon announced yesterday they got a grant for quote posts. They are doing their own thing yet again
Why is it a nuisance for some? They could defederate from Mastodon.social and Mastodon.online. This place is supposed to be about freedom & choice. People can use different software, move to a different instance so I’m confused at the hostility toward Eugen.
It’s because of how people people on mastodon freak out over privacy and consent. That’s why he wrote that article as the expectations and views of a large number of users are fundamentally against what actually happens
