I already gave up. Don’t get me wrong GrapheneOS is great but it’s getting harder and harder to keep working around security measures employed by my banking and government apps. Plus when my Pixel’s screen broke and the price to fix it was the price of a new one I just said fuck it and went back to Samsung.

Y’all would be surprised how many Facebook users there are outside of the west. In my home country of Vietnam Facebook is like Twitter+Reddit+more. It’s the most popular social media app. Everyone is on Facebook. The government posts news on Facebook, academic institutions post news on Facebook. Everyone posts official news on Facebook. Hobbyist discussion happens on Facebook. Buying and selling stuff - also Facebook. Wanna watch short form/long form content? Also Facebook. Facebook Messenger is also the second most popular form of communication. But it is to us what iMessage is to Americans. If you’re not on Messenger, fat chance nobody will talk to you. There’s Zalo which is technically in first place but Zalo is where the Vietnamese government gets to exert its control and it’s mostly to conduct business and talk to boomers. It’s that bad. Facebook is also very popular in other Asian countries like India, Indonesia, Thailand and the Phillipines, although I’m not sure to what degree.

It’s still a tiny echo chamber like it was a couple months ago when I cut back on Lemmy use. It can get pretty repetitive and boring to read. I came back to Reddit because the user base was larger and there were more perspectives I could hear from.

I don’t tell people about the Fediverse.

lemmy.world and by extension mastodon.world is probably still waiting to see what happens. The other instance I have my account on has a rather hands-off approach to moderation soooo I hope there’s some way for a user to block an instance on their own.

Doesn’t posts that people I follow boost that’s on Threads also show up?

Does anyone know a decently sized mastodon instance that’s defederated from Threads? I need to move from mastodon.world which wants to wait and see what Threads does. I moved to mastodon to get away from mainstream social media and I don’t want any of Threads content in my feed. So please suggest some instances!

Threads is making its first moves to EEE the Fediverse.

Recently it seems like the Fediverse is a lot more quiet than before. Even in the tech and privacy communities I follow things have been rather slow lately.

What kind of mentality is this? Don’t we all want the Fediverse to grow and succeed? Don’t you want more apps for the Fediverse to spur adoption? And what is so wrong with it being exclusive to iOS? What do you say about Android exclusive apps then? Fuck them too? Aight listen, I’m a GrapheneOS user. I have been on Android exclusively for the last decades and I’m so sick of this attitude. You Android elitists are so utterly anhedonic. You tire me out. Grow the f up up and let people enjoy what they want geez.

Well I guess our problem with it is that we don’t want a bot clogging up our feeds with content from Reddit and we would prefer if you shut it down.
