I already have some folks interested in joining. I didn’t want it to be attached to me as a personal entity, so no. I don’t think it’s backwards. You can’t ask people to come to a restaurant that doesn’t exist yet.

Maybe it is. I’ve never run a business. So this might all flop. But I have to try at least. I personally believe the Fediverse is the next evolution of the web. And we need to help it where ever we can.

It’s just an idea at the moment. I don’t know if it’s feasbile, practical, or even allowed legally. Hence why I have to talk to my accountant.

But my idea is to generate income either through donations, funding drives, sponsors in the banner, etc. Or to do like a service where you can upload X amount of videos for $/month.

Then once we’ve hit break even, assuming we do (yes I know this is a difficult task atm), to share the additional revenue with content creators.

Definitely a difficult task. Thinking more of a service fee for storage space or faster transcoding maybe. IDK we’re still figuring it out. Also checking with an accountant about maybe being able to do a revenue share or something for content creators. All very much a work in progress though.

Yup. I’m never going to be able to give Youtubers Youtube money. But I’m asking my accountant about some kind of rev share or something. It’s still a work in progress. This instance though is to help onboard those that are interested in an alternate platform that do it for their community. Hard ask, but we’ll be here for the long haul, hopefully. :-D

Thank you so much! It’s nice to know others agree. I’ve been so concerned with all of this, thinking I’m the only one thinking this, but I’m not. We’re ALL thinking this. And I’ve been having an absolute BLAST. Not just for myself, but doing my Fireside Fedi show and even working towards setting up my nonprofit BT Free. We’ll see where it all goes. Dansup talked about actually doing a centralized CDN to reduce storage, storage an image in one place so any instance can use it instead of everyone hosting their own. You could still host your own as well though.

This seems seems not that. This is just the hash right, so not certain what hashes do in the Fedi.

I’m looking and I’m not seeing a troll. I’m seeing someone that’s looking for help and seems to not really understand a lot of what’s around them buddy. And yes, I’ll defend people.

If the person is a troll, then ignore them. Why do you feel you have to attack them? You’re not defending anyone by putting someone else down. Just because you don’t understand them, doesn’t make them a troll.

Downvotes are because a lot of folks are against ChatGPT and LLMs. We’re going through MANY information transitions in the last 40 years and yet another holy grail is difficult to swallow. If you want to ask ChatGPT that’s fine, but I’m trying to get folks to foster the Fediverse and make it more welcoming, more valuable, and heck just help people find us. Use the tools you want, absolutely. But we also need to find ways to help promote the Fediverse.

Kalvin I recommend you just block people and if their instance harasses you you can report them. While they might own their instance your instance, Lemmy.world might ban their entire instance and then they’re totally gone.

Here’s a thought, maybe not harass someone? Try to be kind and compassionate? You have 3 people on your instance, so I imagine that’s just you or a friend’s. Kalvin could of and looking at the comments here alone, should have, reported you to Lemmy.world and they could ban your entire instance. So why not just try to actually get along with folks?
