I think people would react poorly if server donations went to personal expenses before server expenses.
The distinction is an illusion. If a person can’t afford to live, and a part of their life is running a server, who gives a fuck which dollar goes where?
(Other than all the dipshits who offer 0 and demand anything more than nothing.)
Rent comes before server. An outage is a wonderful motivator, turn that shit off.
In the other direction: we thicken the chili with instant mashed potatoes, melt sharp cheddar on top, scoop with corn chips, and dollop sour cream.
You’re free to spin up your own instance where you can make direct threats and actionable calls to violence.
Oh, those are subreddits. Yeah, you’re probably not wrong.
If you have zero interest in the fundamental architecture of the fediverse, why are you in this community? You’re probably interacting with “cross pollination” way more than you realize.
Oh that’s a dope ass tool.
Could you elaborate on this?
The only thing I recognized as a real, implemented thing was @[email protected]’s FediSeer.
Wish you a nice day.
… was that sarcastic?
How much have you donated to your instance admin since signing up?
I think this just makes hyperlinks that lead to fediverse servers open in the user’s preferred client, falling back to the browser.
Facebook’s entire point at it’s inception was to be Horny On Main. Creepy on purpose and straight up dangerous to use for about half of the user base. All posts public. Location sharing enabled by default. No scrubbing of EXIF data. It was a stalker’s paradise.
What can replace Facebook?
Facebook was a mistake that doesn’t need to be repeated, but both Friendica and GoToSocial have facebookish UI, if that’s what you mean.
BlueSky Mastodon = Twitter
Loops = TikTok
PixelFed = Instagram
Sup = What’s App
Lemmy = Reddit
Should we be apprehensive about using his projects?
The majority of [ gestures vaguely ] is created and maintained by individuals with varying levels of crazy. You think the six COBOL developers holding up every bank on the planet are totally sane and hinged?
You’re gonna have to host your own instance if you want candid filtered photographs of legally actionable violent threats. Weird medium for inciting violence, but godspeed.
EEE would require existing Mastodon users moving to threads
It would not.
Meta could implement ActivityPub in Facebook, and there’s your majority population. Imagine a Facebook user “friending” your mastodon account. You follow them back because it’s your mom, and so does basically everyone. Next, Facebook implements Pages to round off the concept of “communities.” Then, Facebook introduces a genuinely useful extension - marketplace. Once a decent clip of people set up shop, trim off any instances that don’t adopt the FriendlyPub fork.
Bam, EEE.
That way is old and busted, here’s the new hotness (anchor positioning).
