If they try to join the Fediverse, I hope the name doesn’t cause confusion with kbin’s Threads.
Something like https://lemmyverse.net/communities needs to be integrated into all instances. For that, I think there needs to be some way of federating communities. I’m not sure what’s missing from a technical perspective (ie, why hasn’t it been done yet).
I don’t think the architecture has anything to do with it. The algorithms just need improving.

1-2 days is enough to learn the basics, but I doubt you’ll be as nearly as productive as with something you’ve been using for years. Keep in mind that new languages also mean new frameworks, etc, some which take years to actually master, but at least months to get a good handle on them.
Also, from my understanding, Rust is a bit of a paradigm shift.
