Based on how …certain… Lemmy instances have handled themselves, the intention to deal with “Wikipedia content moderation” here is almost certainly not to make a freer version of Wikipedia, but to make heavily censored content enclaves with the same obvious editorial restrictions concerning certain topics you find on certain large instances.

Yes, people who unironically support Leninism, Stalinism and Maoism are supporters of autocratic, and in many cases tyrannical politics. These are first principles for the vast majority of people who study politics, all over the world. It only feels strange because places like hexbear and lemmygrad have this extremely weird liturgy, where vaguely expressing any form of the idea that some forms of autocracy can be more evil than some forms of capitalism is the worst sin.
Really, the only thing which is confusing to me is why anyone who espouses egalitarian and queer friendly principles would associate with people who actively promote a global alliance of countries who would exterminate them. I don’t condone association with campists for the same reason I don’t condone association with Republicans.

I think there are some legitimate concerns here though. Not necessarily of the ideology the primary devs, but the way it manifests with a soft ban on certain topics (Ukraine), and how they seem fine letting lemmygrad trolls shut down basically every other world news thread. And I’m not talking about people having different opinions here - I’m talking about users who openly state that they seek to disrupt discussion in order to deny the information space to non-ML ideas entirely. I have reported a number of these comments which are blatantly and openly stating that they only intend to troll and disrupt and nothing ever happens. Yet if you take a slightly wrong tone in responding to the sel-avowed trolls they are quite quick with the ban hammer.

I mean we have seen how the Lemmy devs approach certain topics, and it is definitely not with a preference for openness or free exchange of ideas. There are certain topics here which have a hair trigger for content removal and bans, for extremely petty and minor “transgressions,” so the motivation here seems pretty transparent.
