That’s some sick shit. He had obviously been saving up this speech, waiting for an occasion to spring it on some unsuspecting poster.

vzq@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Why haven't we figured out monetisation for peertube?English8·1 year agoFunny, I said “monetisation”, you heard “ads”.
You don’t know what I heard. Please do not speculate.
Do you think that’s the only way to monetise something?
No, but I’ve been around the block often enough to know that “monetization” almost always means “take something away from people and then sell it back to them”.
Ads are best case. I can filter those out. The rest is worse.

It was the relentless effort the team put into community building and making sure site was valuable both as an interactive experience and as an archive.
You can’t code yourself out of that effort.
i keep getting banned, for no reason at all
Ah yes, the asshole’s motto.
Go into any even slightly contentious post, click through to any thread that has gone over five messages or so, and you will find messages that should have been deleted and users that should have been banned.
Often, including yours truly.
Bluesky’s block propagation makes trolling and shit posting virtually a non issue. It’s that good.
Instead, Lemmy seems to get worse and worse moderation-wise every day.
vzq@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Fediverse@lemmy.ml•Is there anything akin to a federated forum login?3·2 years agoYou could login everywhere with public keys instead of passwords and usernames. I mean, you can’t yet but the idea was neat
You certainly can. Look up client side certificates.
vzq@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Fediverse@lemmy.ml•Is there anything akin to a federated forum login?7·2 years agoWho would you trust with supplying identity services?
If you don’t trust Google, or Apple, or Microsoft, the biggest email providers in the world (ie where you send your activation links), why on god’s green earth would you trust some rando on the web?

If you can’t be bothered to make a form, al least format your post so I can read the questions.

vzq@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Fediverse@lemmy.ml•If in the era of federated social media, large tribes/collectives/factions will develop - which one would you join? (possibly with reference to SF e.g. Expanse, Star Trek, Dune)5·2 years agoApparently the one with blue sharks and trans folk.
It would fit right in with the Dune nutcases. Expanse and Star Trek take themselves too seriously for the People of the Shork.
vzq@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Fediverse@lemmy.ml•What about a new mixed-feed which merges the Subscribed, Local and All feed based on probabilities customable by the user e.g. 10/40/50 or 0/20/80?3·2 years agoFor starters, because to give an answer to my straight forward question up top you send me to a rambling effort post.
But why?
Simply put, there aren’t a lot of us, we don’t like them, and we aren’t particularly nice people, even to people we don’t dislike a priori.
It seems like a poor business decision.
