Heh, P2P absolutely does not minimize security concerns, especially of your IP being revealed.
Remember how people got DDoSed all the time because of Skype?

An IP address alone does not identify you. It might identify your general area.
Any other website works the same way. I can go buy a domain, set up a plain html site, and view the IP of anyone who visits the site.
What kind of features are you looking for?
Whoever you’d recommend is already exposed to the lemmy.ml people or worse, it’s just through Facebook or Instagram or Reddit. At least here they’re a little self-contained.
People trend towards your expectations. You’ll still have a bell curve, it’s just a matter of where it’s centered.
Lemmy.world is bigger, but Lemmy.ml.is the developers’ instance, and gets the newest versions of Lemmy first.
It’s also the oldest instance, I believe.
Anything that speaks poorly of China, especially Wikipedia.
Use a porn/incognito window to go to https://lemmy.ml/c/worldnews click modlog and search for your name.
What? If you have context, let us know. I just posted what I found on the modlog over there.

That’s not allowed on lemmy.ml
Looks fine to me.
And if it such a central feature
It’s not. It’s an important feature. It’s not a central feature.
That’s like saying two factor authentication is a central feature of Twitter. It’s important, yes, but it’s not central.
People misunderstand what federation needs to do. Email is a great model.
It’s fine to have big providers. What federation does is limit the fuckery possible. Imagine what would happen if GMail started charging $8 a month.
Having the option for competition doesn’t mean you have to use it. It’s enough that it’s possible.
I disagree about the 25% bit. Federation as a feature is overstressed. It’s very important, but it doesn’t have much of an effect on the user experience.
Federation is the freedom to get away from shitty admins and mods. Federation is the opportunity to revolt.
But you don’t need to be in a constant state of revolution. Just having the opportunity doesn’t mean you have to use it.
capitalist pig baby killer
I’m guessing your instance hasn’t blocked Hexbear and Lemmygrad yet.
A couple counterpoints. First, there’s no such thing as a public secret. They can get our data whether we like it or not. And there’s not much difference between sharing your post through boosting vs just sharing a screenshot of your post.
It might be more productive to make a list of demands, rather than black and white defederation. Defederate until they have proper moderation, offer to federate as soon as they take proper action.
The fact that Libs of TikTok exists on Threads shows their lack of moderation. That group’s entire purpose is targeted harassment campaigns.
Decentralization doesn’t matter until it does. Recruiting people to your specific Mastodon instance is ideal and simple. All they need out of the decentralization concept is to know they can’t be screwed if Elon takes over their instance.
4chan wasn’t like that before 2015. Well, except for the racism part. It was leftish/libertarian.
It’s also the easiest “social media” platform to game. You don’t have to make up a history for each user. You don’t have to get upvoted. You don’t even really need to make sense.
The only thing I really want from Jerboa is a notification when any of my accounts has a reply/message.
Do you use websites? They can also track your IP.
