There, now everyone’s upset.
So foreign agents can’t donate to candidates that will benefit them. (But that happens anyway.)
That money wasn’t given to spend somewhere else. That’s like if I raise money for a school art program, and you say it would be better spent on a sports program, cause it’s so much money. That’s not what the fundraiser was for, and that’s not why the money was given.
And again, you are free to start a fundraiser for Mastodon. I honestly wish you luck if you do.
Imo if the point of this fundraiser is to promote and grow mastodon/the fediverse then why isn’t the money put towards ads, funding instances, developing the fediverse, or a million other things. That amount of money could go a very long way for the fediverse if it were put towards something other than a plea to Kamala Harris to pretty please maybe think about possibly signing up for mastodon
This text is implying that that amount of money has better uses, but we never raised that amount of money for any of those uses, so it’s completely pointless to talk about. I personally donated because it’s going to Kamala’s campaign. If it weren’t, I wouldn’t have, and I bet most other people wouldn’t have either.
The commenter completely misses the point of the fundraiser. It is not a Mastodon fundraiser. It is a Kamala fundraiser. Nobody donated to Mastodon here.
If you’d like to start a different fund for that, that’s fine. This fund is for Kamala Harris, and the people who donated money to it did it with the understanding that that’s what it’s for.
You can’t just decide to use the money for something else, because that is called fraud, and it’s a crime.
Yep. Reading the spec gave me the impression that the authors wanted to create something that can do literally everything, not realizing that that makes it impossible to “fully” implement the spec.
Does your application correctly render when I dislike the fact that a user removed a file from a group? That’s something you can represent in ActivityPub.
I can’t follow a user, only communities.
This is cool. Keep working on it.
Thanks for the notice. My instance is now updated. :)
I like your take. Unfortunately, I don’t see a way forward where Meta isn’t at least partially successful in extinguishing the fediverse. We’ll probably be fine, because we’re here now and our shit works, but the most likely scenario I see is in the future the common perception of fediverse microblogging apps will be, “oh, that place where users can never see when I’m using ___ feature.” Then it will be harder to attract new users, just like it was so hard for Firefox to attract users when sites were broken because of IE’s EEE tactics.
Nostr is not moderatable, so it’s already full of ads. It will just continue to attract spam. It’s a great idea, but it doesn’t work in real life. At least not yet.
Run your own.
